Look who made it to their sorting session. Welcome child, sit and let’s get right to it.
Beautiful day ain’t it? You know what’ll make it a beautiful week? You! When you drop that weight of negativity that’s dragging you down.
I know you woke up on the right side of the bed, your head’s not so nappy, you did your meditation and said your prayers, and you drank that smoothie with the extra vegetables in it because you actually give a shit about yourself. And you’re wondering “what’s this durag saying this fine Monday about negativity? I’m positive!”
I’m talking about the smaller things that slide between your fingers while you’re focused on the big things. It’s easy to focus on big things like going to the gym, showing up to work or school early, eating healthy, going to bed or waking up early etc. But I’m talking about small things like jealousy, self-sabotaging, and bullshitting your personal growth.
I know you thinking “I ain’t been jealous of nobody, I ain’t self sabotaging, and I damn well ain’t been bullshitting my personal growth”. Well are you sure? Are you, really, sure? Because self sabotage sometimes looks like rejecting compliments, refusing help even when you need it, extreme perfectionism or procrastination, being too self critical. Oh and jealousy? Sometimes that’s masked in feelings like “that’s too easy, even I could have done it”, “I worked harder than them, why wasn’t I acknowledged too?”, “that could have been me!”… And bullshitting is procrastination, and extreme perfection (all or nothing), and giving up too soon on yourself or making up excuses for why you should quit a personal project even when you know it will be beneficial to your growth if you follow through with it.
The hardest thing is believing in your dreams because no one has the same vision as you, but you must also remember that growth is a slow and lonely process and most people will only meet you at the finish line, not while you’re still running your course. You have to be committed to your growth and ditch the bullshit. And look out for red flags that indicate you might be getting jealous, or self sabotaging. Focus on the small stuff as much as you’re focused on the big stuff.
I sure do hope that I’ve opened your eyes up to some things or areas that you need to work on. Either ways I got nothing more to say to you, my job here is done. See you next week 😉
